How Do I Get Into Tarot?

Hi all! Sorry this post is being published so late. Today’s topic is going to be on something I’ve been doing for a while and specialize in. Although I wouldn’t say I’m super fantastic at it yet and have a lot to learn still.

So today’s topic is going to be on Tarot and how to get into it for those looking to learn. Now Tarot cards come in four different suits and then also there are 22 Major Arcana Cards. These are the ones that focus on the situations we deal with in day to day life. They are the most prominent in the deck although each card is unique in it’s own way. Each suit also deals with a different part of our being whether it be our emotions, or our material being. I’ll be listing the Major Arcana down below as the names may be familiar to you from some form of media whether it be through a video game or a television show.

In order we have:

Zero: The Fool
I: The Magician
II: The High Priestess
III: The Empress
IV: The Emperor
V: The Hierophant
VI: The Lovers
VII: The Chariot
VIII: Justice
IX: The Hermit
X: Wheel of Fortune
XI: Strength
XII: The Hanged Man
XIII: Death
XIV: Temperance
XV: The Devil
XVI: The Tower
XVII: The Star
XVIII: The Moon
XIX: The Sun
XX: Judgement
XXI: The World

Now you may look at this list and see a bunch of random words but with each card lays meaning. I’m not going to get super into detail about each card as that would make this post absurdly long, but I’ll give a brief explanation about how tarot cards are used. I’ll leave whether or not you believe they work up to you and your beliefs.

Tarot cards had long been used as a method of predicting the future, a fortune-telling game that people would use. Each card with it’s own meaning when presented upright and when in a reversed position. A lot of meanings that you have to look at from several different angles or instead of taking it at face value such as the card Death. While the card Death seems like it would be a bad omen or a prediction of one’s own death it can also symbolize a finite ending of something whether it be an idea, or maybe even an argument or disagreement. Cards can hold multiple meanings and while they may seem ominous aren’t always depending on the context and also who you go to see and how they handle their deck.

Like people, decks sometimes have a certain preference or likeness to answer questions relating to a specific topic. I know that my deck doesn’t particularly like answering questions relating to relationships and emotions and it very logic based. It’s something I find highly ironic as someone that tends to disregard logic and go with my intuition and feelings more often than not. Whenever I’m having a particular problem I’ll often reference my deck and use it. It’s very good about making me aware of things that I might not have considered as someone that can be impulsive and even careless sometimes.

If you’re looking to get into tarot definitely do your research on the different kinds and styles of decks, there are also different kinds of cards such as angel cards and oracle decks. So be sure you’re purchasing the right deck. One of the most popular is the Rider Waites tarot deck and art. The one I use is a pocket size deck that is made by a company called RunningPress. It’s also really helpful to find others that practice tarot and to talk to them, I’ve spoken with a few people on tumblr that do free readings and we’ve discussed our styles and given each other readings. With anything practice makes perfect although having a natural affinity or talent does help tremendously. Also keeping an open mind. A really helpful website I frequently reference is biddytarot

Even though I’ve been involved in the world of tarot for a while I still have lots to learn and a lot of that knowledge can come from doing research and reading. Now for the end of this post I’ll be doing a one card tarot reading for the rest of the week. Although this post was so short and didn’t go super in depth, I hope it was a good starting point!

The Wheel of Fortune: The Wheel of Fortune when in an upright position is symbolic of good luck and karma. The wheel is turning and soon in it’s cycle it should be turning things around. If things have seemed stressful and overwhelming lately expect some things to be resolved and fixed. Count on good karma and spread positivity this week. Grab yourselves some extra good karma this week and the ball will be in your court this week. Good luck and positive vibes this week!

Medido’s and Medidon’ts

Meditation is something that I’ve been doing for about a year now and has personally helped me mentally. Now meditating I feel like is something that’s different for everyone, but follows the same basics, so I’m here to share with you some tips and tricks for meditating. Some do’s and don’ts as well as share how I meditate and some items I use while I meditate.

Do:

  1. Clear your space, having a clean space allows you to focus more.
  2. Put away your phone, turn it off, or on do not disturb mode if using it for your meditation
  3. Some deep breathing beforehand and during
  4. Set the mood for your space
  5. Have everything you would need within an arms reach like a water bottle

Don’ts

  1. Be checking your phone every 2 minutes
  2. Keep getting up to get something
  3. Stress out, meditation is all about relaxing and easing your mind

This is a fairly short list of do’s and don’ts because really it’s up to your preferences and what you like. I personally meditate with an app called Insight Timer. I use the app daily and would highly recommend it. It has meditations of all different lengths and for all different purposes. Whether it be for your self esteem or to help your spirituality. You can also meditate on your own without an app or guidance but I’ve found that often times a guided meditation helps greatly especially if you don’t know where to start.

My Meditation Process:

In my room I have a soft fuzzy rug that I lay on when I meditate, I clear the space around it so there’s no distracting things and close my eyes. Before I even lay down I put some lavender or eucalyptus essential oil into my diffuser and let that run. I turn off all the lights and instead use battery operated tea lights since I don’t want to risk setting my rug on fire. I also have a few chakra bracelets and other gemstones that I use and keep nearby. Sometime’s I might clutch some clear quartz. Clear quartz is good for protecting against negativity along with a plethora of other benefits and uses. If I’m doing a guided meditation I close my eyes and focus on the words. If I’m doing a meditation on my own then I just play background music without words in it. I personally like to listen to Lofi music or the sounds they have on Insight Timer. You can also sit upright, I just personally prefer to lay down. If you’re afraid of falling asleep I would suggest sitting upright unless your goal is to fall asleep.

A note: Different gemstones are good for different things, so definitely do some research about them before buying them if you don’t already own some. And here’s a link to a fairly cheap diffuser similar to the one that I own: https://www.amazon.com/VicTsing-Essential-Reduction-Ultrasonic-Humidifier/dp/B07DB68HLW/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1543976816&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=diffuser&psc=1

Unguided Meditation:

For those of you that don’t like having to focus on someone else’s voice while meditating I’ll write out a simple meditation that I was told once back in sixth grade.

  1. Lay down flat on your back or sitting upright with your eyes closed.
  2. Take deep breaths and feel your body sinking into the floor and the floor pushing back against your weight.
  3. Try and clear your mind and only focus on the heaviness of your body and try and wiggle your fingers or toes for a second. Keep in mind how each part of your body feels in relation to one another. Let your body feel connected with your mind.
  4. Once your mind is clear picture yourself at the entrance to a garden. At a gate, what does it look like? Is it big golden gate? Is it a small white one? Picture it clearly in your mind whatever it may be. Once you feel ready go ahead and open it. Feel the sensations in your hands and feet as you walk forwards.
  5. Look around. There are trees to the left and flowers to the right. What kinds are they? What colors are they? Allow yourself to be still for a moment to just enjoy the peacefulness in your own private garden.
  6. Notice your surroundings, is there a slight breeze? Can you smell the flowers? Pay attention to how your body feels. Does it feel light or heavy? Feel your feet sinking into the earth.
  7. Tend to your garden. You are like a seed that needs nurturing and care in order to flourish. These flowers and trees didn’t grow and become beautiful without any work. Others can take care of us and they can water us and provide the sunlight, but unless we absorb it and use it to grow, we aren’t. If you can take care of a flower delicately, remember to take care of your own soul and being with the same gentleness. We only live once, remember to take a deep breath, to take care of your flower, and watch it thrive.
  8. Walk a little bit further and take a seat on a bench. Enjoy the moment. Find peace in this garden, for it’s full of beauty. Take as long as you’d like to look around one more time at your garden and when you are ready, open your eyes.

There is beauty in everything, beauty is everywhere. In flowers, trees, and even just the gentle caressing of the wind. Each and every person deserves to be treated and taken care of with the same care that we do plants and animals. We just often times forget, but with the coming and going of others we will always have ourselves to nurture and be nurtured by. I hope this post was insightful to those and for anyone with further questions or comments don’t hesitate to hit the “Get in Touch!” button. ❤ Happy Meditating.

The Journey Begins

Hello there, and thank you for joining me on an adventure to explore the beauty of everything. My name is Grace and I am a free spirited, spiritual, flower child, as I often like to refer to myself. I dabble in the world of music, art, and magick. I have always had a fascination with the other side and in many ways it’s helped me through some of my toughest times. I play piano, sing, write music, draw, and walk side by side with mother earth. I also work in women’s fashion and am a college student majoring in Elementary Education that will eventually get a certification in ESL (English as a Second Language) because all children deserve to receive the best education to give them the lives they deserve.

My goal with this blog is to be able to share some experiences and offer advice and a peace of mind for others that may be potentially going through the same. Remember everything is as it is supposed to be. I also hope to be offering free three card tarot draws and giving advice on auras and colors. I’m sure there are other’s that can see the auras surrounding people and it’s beautiful because the world is so vibrant. I hope to help guide you or at least offer some assistance through life’s long journey. I’ve assisted a few of my friends with their own spirituality, maybe I can assist some of you as well.

The reason I chose The Star to represent me on my blog is because she represents hope and spirituality and it is my goal to give people hope. Also I may post some fashion advice for bohemian styles on here inspired by my personal idols Stevie Nicks and Florence Welch.

I’ll make this a rather quick blog post as I wanted to simply introduce myself and to welcome you into my world and head space. Posts should be out every Tuesday, next post will be about Meditation later today. Blessed be.
